Le nuove generazioni reinventano lo stile Hanfu dando vita a una rivoluzione dei costumi.
L’Hanfu è l’abito tradizionale cinese tipico del gruppo etnico degli Han. Caratterizzato da linee morbide accompagnate da maniche estremamente larghe e lunghe, è apparso intorno al 25/26 secolo a.C. durante gli imperi di Yang Di e Huang Di, considerati gli antenati di tutti gli Han. Il costume venne utilizzato per quasi 4000 anni e resistette fino alla fine della dinastia Ming, durante la quale l’Hanfu divenne l’abito da lavoro per eccellenza. Tuttavia in seguito, a causa dell’invasione Manciù e del conseguente divieto di indossare l’Hanfu in pubblico, la popolazione si allontanò progressivamente da questo tradizionale costume. Nonostante i numerosi ostacoli disseminati nel corso dei millenni fino ai giorni nostri, l’Hanfu però non è completamente scomparso nel mondo moderno, ma è stato ripreso proprio dalle generazioni più giovani, che sentono il bisogno di riscoprire un passato lontano per affermare la propria identità culturale.
LA RISCOPERTA DELL'HANFU
La passione di indossare l’Hanfu al di fuori delle ricorrenze tradizionali cinesi ha iniziato a diffondersi particolarmente dal 2003, quando un operaio di una centrale elettrica si presentò sul luogo di lavoro indossando questo costume tradizionale. A partire da quel momento i seguaci di quello che è diventato un vero e proprio movimento culturale sono aumentati con il passare del tempo, tanto che nel 2008, durante i giochi olimpici di Pechino, i sostenitori degli atleti proposero con successo di utilizzare una reinterpretazione dell’Hanfu come divisa per gli aiutanti volontari. Successivamente, nel 2013, si assistette ad un ulteriore sviluppo del movimento, quando iniziarono ad apparire i primi store interamente dedicati a quello che oggi è noto come ‘stile Hanfu’. Con l’avvento dei social media, in particolare TikTok e WeChat, il fenomeno si è diffuso su larga scala, coinvolgendo prima i giovani compresi tra i 16 e i 25 anni che, a loro volta, hanno esteso il fenomeno anche ai membri più anziani delle loro famiglie.
La scelta di questo costume tradizionale rispetto ad un altro non è assolutamente casuale, ma è legata ad un forte desiderio di unità , che sembra crescere sempre di più tra le nuove generazioni. Utilizzando costantemente l’Hanfu i giovani si riavvicinano infatti alle proprie radici e riscoprono aspetti comuni di cui prima ignoravano l’esistenza, avendo così la possibilità di organizzare incontri ed eventi di massa caratterizzati da intensi scambi di idee e opinioni tra coetanei. Tra questi eventi spicca il festival culturale che si tiene ogni anno a Xitang, nei pressi di Shanghai, durante il quale i fan dello stile Hanfu reinterpretano quest’ultimo secondo le proprie preferenze, creandolo da sé o acquistandolo in store o siti di vendita online specializzati come Holoong. Nonostante la rapida diffusione di questo stile nella Cina contemporanea, l’Hanfu non ha ancora conquistato un posto in passerella se non in rare occasioni. Forse succederà fra poco… Ma in fondo chi può prevedere cosa ci riserva il futuro?

CHINA REDISCOVER THE MILLENARY TRADITION OF HANFU
The new generations reinvent the Hanfu style giving life to a costume revolution.
Hanfu is the traditional Chinese dress typical of the Han ethnic group. Characterized by soft lines accompanied by extremely wide and long sleeves, it appeared around the 25/26 century BC. during the empires of Yang Di and Huang Di, considered the ancestors of all the Han. The costume was used for almost 4000 years and lasted until the end of the Ming dynasty, during which Hanfu became the workwear par excellence. However, later, due to the Manchu invasion and the consequent ban on wearing Hanfu in public, the population gradually moved away from this traditional costume. Despite the numerous obstacles scattered over the millennia up to the present day, however, Hanfu has not completely disappeared in the modern world, but has been taken over by the younger generations, who feel the need to rediscover a distant past to assert their cultural identity.
THE REDISCOVERY OF HANFU
The passion to wear Hanfu outside of traditional Chinese anniversaries began to spread particularly since 2003, when a worker at a power plant showed up at the workplace wearing this traditional costume. Since then, the followers of what has become a real cultural movement have increased with the passage of time, so much so that in 2008, during the Beijing Olympic Games, supporters of the athletes successfully proposed to use a reinterpretation of the Hanfu as a uniform for volunteer helpers. Subsequently, in 2013, there was a further development of the movement, when the first stores entirely dedicated to what is now known as the 'Hanfu style' began to appear. With the advent of social media, in particular TikTok and WeChat, the phenomenon has spread on a large scale, first involving young people aged between 16 and 25 who, in turn, have extended the phenomenon also to older members of the their families. The choice of this traditional costume over another is not absolutely casual, but is linked to a strong desire for unity, which seems to grow more and more among the new generations.
By constantly using Hanfu, young people get closer to their roots and rediscover common aspects of which they previously ignored the existence, thus having the opportunity to organize mass meetings and events characterized by intense exchanges of ideas and opinions between peers. Among these events, the cultural festival held every year in Xitang, near Shanghai, stands out, during which fans of the Hanfu style reinterpret the latter according to their preferences, creating it by themselves or buying it in stores or specialized online sales sites like Holoong. Despite the rapid spread of this style in contemporary China, Hanfu has not yet conquered a place on the catwalk except on rare occasions. Maybe it will happen soon ... But basically who can predict what the future holds?
